I'm currently putting material together for issue #125. If you have any material - news, reviews, comments - that we can feature, then do get in touch with me.
Let's make #125 another great issue...
carol Wrote:Yes, issue #124 is with our printer and should be into the mail next week!
As usual, we've a varied haul of reviews and discussion. We've not just one but two interviews with designers of new RPG systems, both very different from each other, along with the general RPG column. We've a column on the games at Spiel and a review of the ground-breaking card/board-game Eye of Judgment. Turn-based games are strongly represented this issue, with pieces on Neutral Zone (Amercian Football), DungeonWorld, Clans and the new Middle-Earth module. Along with plenty more, oh yes!

Issue #124 arrived on my doorstep this morning!

Issue # 124 has arrived across the Ocean of Atlantic, today's date.
Here's some initial feedback on Issue # 124. I haven't read the magazine through, and have mainly just browsed through it, stopping to read a bit here and there.
1. Front Cover - Very colorful. I had no idea what game that the cover art was in regard to, and for some reason it made me think of National geographic magazine. Page # 3 revealed that it was for the game Cursed Empire. All in all, the front cover grabbed my eye, and the text on it was legible. The yellow lettering worked good against the background colors.
2. The Gandalf image on page # 6 looks good, and it was good to see back to back articles on Middle-earth PBM. I will like read the article by Sam Roads first (sorry about that, Jeffery A. Dobberpuhl).
3. I am usually a fan of maps printed within the pages of magazines. However, the small Middle-earth maps on pages #7, #36, and #37 need to be larger, I think. The Cursed Empire map on page # 9 caught my eye, more, and I studied it more. I don't know if that's because I have seen Middle-earth PBM map printouts before, or because the terrain in the Middle-earth PBM maps is dealt with via different colored hexes.
4. I glanced over the Cursed Empire interview on page # 9, but didn't see a link or an address to find out more about the game. This gets a thumbs down.
5. PEvans has an article about the game Brass. I'll be sure to read this article
6. Thumbs up on the Clans article on page # 13. Too bad it is only one page in length. I'll read it, but it would have been nice to see a longer article.
7. I like interviews, so I'll be sure to read the interview with James Norbury on page # 16 about Corporation,The art for Corporation on page # 17 is not the best, but it does suffice to generate interest on my part to read the interview.
8. The "At a glance" boxes, the black boxes with white lettering, I like a lot. It makes the page visually more appealing, I think.
9. The Dark Heresy image on page # 20 catches my eye. I'll read at least part of Robert Rees article.
10. I was glad to see an article about Gary Gygax, the one on page # 21. I'll read that, and thumbs up on its inclusion in issue # 124. However, thumbs down on its location way back on page # 124. I think that that article should have been much closer to the front of the magazine.
11. Shannon Applecline has a double-paged article on Support Your Locally Owned Shop! The subject matter interests me, so I'll read the article, but an image of some sort to break up all of that text would have been a plus.
12. PEvans reports on an international games fair in issue # 124, and I always like reading about games fairs and gaming conventions, probably since I never managed to make it to any in person.
13. Dan Fortier's article on MMORPGs, notably Warhammer and Conan, caught my eye, so I'll definitely be reading this article at length. I probably won't end up playing either game, though. Still, I enjoy reading about those games in the works.
14. Clint Oldridge has a Middle-earth article on pages # 36 and #37. I'll be reading this article, too. One thing that I think that might be helpful, though, would be if full size versions of those map images from the article were displayed online, with a handy link listed below each map image for those who would like to see the maps in a more legible manner. I'm not about to break out a magnifying glass for those maps.
15. Carol's Logbook on pages # 40 and #41 I will read. I'll also be reading the Dispatches on page # 42 and The Mighty Pen on page # 43. The Mighty Pen is always one of my favorite parts of the magazine.
16. Pages # 44 through #47 feature Rumors from the Front, which I enjoy checking out each issue.
17. There's an ad for Games Gazette on page # 47 that caught my eye, and which I'll check out. I am trying to remember if I checked it out before, or not. Unable to recall, I'll have to check it out by visiting their website listed.
18. The Galactic View, notably the Galactic View Tables, still needs larger size print, so I give the small print the thumbs down.
19. The ad on the inside of the back cover for Lagas: Island of Heroes catches my eye. It's a colorful ad, and you can read everything on it, since the text is all legible. I'll be visiting their website, too.
20. Finally, the rear cover has a colorful and legible ad for the UK Games Expo. I won't be attending the Expo, but I like the ad, as far as ads go.
21. The "Free Game" aspect of the inside front cover ad on page # 2 for Middle-earth PBM caught my eye, also, but I am left wondering if it i the first fifty players (current players) of the game who are eligible for the free game offering, or if it should be the first fifty persons who contact the folks at Middle-earth Games and who mention the Free Game aspect of that ad in issue # 124 of Flagship magazine.
22. Just to round things out, here are my picks for the three best looking ads in issue # 124 of Flagship magazine:
1st Place - Lagas: Island of Heroes (page # 51)
2nd Place - UK Games Expo (page # 52)
3rd Place - Excel Print Limited (page # 41)

Any chance of a pay as you go online version, possibly pay by paypal, also what is the chances of having galactic view in the forum? i am looking for games that are still going, using the internet leads to a lot of old dead end games.

Is the cursed Empire game set up in Ancient Greece? It looks very cool, the website too, I will post it all over our gaming sites. BTW, Flagship front page rocks! Any chance i can buy the issue stand alone, or is it still with a subscription?
Grimfinger, if you have all this to comment just by browsing i fear what Carol will have to read once you finish the issue

Yes - happy to send it for £5 to the US, £4 to Europe or £3.50 in the UK.
