I'm a Londoner, moved to Sweden permanently in 1983. I retired in 2005 at the age of 63 for health reasons. I have been gaming since the mid-60s, first tabletop wargames using miniature figurines, then Avalon Hill boardgames. Some solo gaming, too, a subscriber and contributor to Lone Warrior in the 70s. I switched to PBM once it took off in the early 80s and hav subscribed to Flagship, contributing occasional articles, since its start.
Since the early 80s I played mostly open-ended hand-moderated PBM/PBEM games where a position can be built up over the years, and that's still my main gaming interest. I played first in Keys of Bled and later its successor Bledian Diary altogether for about 20 years.
I've dabbled in numerous games down the years, early versions of Midgard, several Legends modules, Madhouse dungeon-crawls, Quest, Saturnalia, a bit of D&D (lost interest when AD&D came in - far too complex), Tribes of Crane, World of Vengeance and other games too numerous to mention.
I prefer to play just one or two games that have deep long-term involvement rather than spread myself thinly over many games. The games need to be open-ended where I decide what constitutes "success" and which make possible high levels of immersion.
The only current games I am in now are The Known World (since 1983) and, since its start in 2005, MidgardUK (see the respective threads on these two games in the Hand-moderated Games Forum). I've also been a member of the roleplaying community in Ultima Online for the last 4 years.
I would like to sign up for Lords of Terre (which looks almost as good as The Known World!) and also Clansman, and Briny en Garde. But with the 2 games I am in, I am holding back, not wanting to spread myself any thinner without losing quality of experience.
