Hello everyone,

My name is Penn Eckert and I am a player in the PBEM game Midgard UK, who's GM is Stephen Weir. He has restarted Midgard UK again and is currently running the game, plus recoding it too. He has done a awesome job so far and is one of the best GM I have ever played under. His Special Actions returns are 2nd to NONE!!!

Here is his current website:

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/midgard_uk_pbm/

BTW let me also state that I will shortly become the first Midgard senior #1 in this new game. I and my other three fellow seniors will become the seniors of the new faction called Seekers. We are a faction that is based around the Quest for Knowledge , and remember that depending how one uses that Knowledge One gains Power. The Seekers are based on both the northern continent of Midgard and the southern continent of Kalmar.

Come check out a PBEM game with a deep history!

Cheers,

Penn
Hello everyone,

The Midgard UK game is a hand moderated PBEM, that allows you to play up to (3) clans within the game. Each clan is made up of a Leader, (3) followers, and 190 men(retainers) to start. You get to name your clan, leader and (3) followers and then you start off somewhere in the world (you can either start at a GM picked start point or if you communicate with current players they can give you some information so you can pick your starting location.) Everyone starts as a Independent clan and then you can choose to join some faction with one or all three of your clans.

The game mechanics are done by using "Orders" up to (30) and you also have up to (3) Special Actions inwhich you can roleplay or what ever using your clan's characters (Leader and (3) Followers). Now it should be pointed out that Midgard is set in a Middle Ages style setting but it is still Fantasy. Yes Magic does exist within the game, but it is hard to find and looks alot like Tolken style in nature(nothing flashy)! There are also large nasty monster as well too<VBG>!

Political factionial PLUG: Seekers

Now I am the founder and creature of a new faction within the game and this faction will be coming live this turn...we are called the Seekers. I will be the Seeker #1, and I and my other three Seniors (#2,#3,and #4) will be the first seniors within the game. To start a new faction is no easy task. First one has to come up with a concept that both fits the game as a whole, and get the ok by the GM. Next within game one must roleplay and find a NPC willing to become your Senior #0 and lead the new faction. After that you need to completely design out the faction in all details and come up with a factionial office. Then one must recruit the required player base of at least (10) players and (30) clans, and they all must run their positions every turn. We Seekers have over that number in players and clans. That is no minor thing, being that all other factions only have a handful of players and clans at best. Plus being that there are NO other seniors within any factions yet, only we Seekers know where all of our clans are and what they are doing. The rest of the players have no idea what other players in their own factions are even doing. Thus basically we are hitting the ground running and extremely mobilized to boot.

So come join the political landscape and join Midgard UK PBEM game and check out the factions. If your interested in the Seeker faction, feel free to contact me:

Foot Note: This is a Paid Political announcement from the Seeker faction point of view. Midgard is a great game and one can look at many issues from different point of views. Roleplaying and Poitical fun are key in this game, plus throw in combat too. So pick up your sword and quill and have a blast.
Hi All,

As the Senior #2 of the Seeker faction, I too would like to encourage everyone to read and post similar threads here.

As Dexter pointed out, we are pushing both the Midgard PBM and our faction. Why not. We're not old like Jim Early are we. Jim, go change your depends.

The Seeker faction is up over 30 active clans and is still growing. So join now and take on the world, not just a faction. It's an adventure, not a job. Don't be a follower, be a trend setter.

You owe it to yourself and your clan.

Sincerely,

Almore Miller / Seeker #2
To potential new players of the great game Midgard.
Some of the statements in the second post I would take with a pinch of salt.
Penn has done a great job organizing a new faction and getting enough of his roleplaying friends to join to make it work. However, there are a large number of excellent players whom really make the game stand out and they are members of the many different factions and or independants that make up the political system of Midgard.
I am a member of the Imperials 6 hardcore, excellent gamers that all seem to thrive on this game. Big is not always best, and we are well aware of our factional goals and aims and communicate and share information on a regular basis.
I also know that this happens across the board with all factions with myself being in contact with the other factional players when needed.
The game is still very young in it's development and credit due to Stephen (GM) for levelling the playing field and starting the game from scratch.

The depth of the game is fantastic and your only limit is your very own imagination although do not expect all your special actions and roleplaying to succeed in the way that you had envisaged or even succeed at all.

There are more than 70 positions currently active spread across two continents. Plenty of roleplaying, bickering, fighting and general mayhem.
If you like fantasy/medieval/roleplaying/wargaming, I am sure that the game has something for you.
Contact me in game, Dexter Blackstock or even private e-mail for any help, assistance or a general chit chat if you fancy joining up and would like to know more. New players are always welcome and are not at a disadvantage due to the game development so you can make your mark right from the first turn. Certainly refreshing in an open ended game that you will not be crushed by players walking around with 20,000 troops looking to put new players to the sword.
Come and see for yourself. I played the game back in the 80's and 90's and I still regard it as the best game I have ever played.

Greetings all;
As Dexter, I too am a player that in the last century played, what I still consider, one the the best games ever created, MIDGARD.
At least 14 factions contend with each other on continents, interacting and creating peace, stability, humbleness, and in general, complete havoc.
And also we musn't forget the Bandits, pirates and independents that roam the still somewhat empty continents. A place exists for any type of player and, what I consider it's strength, a very quiet magic, if it exists.
The GM(Stephen, don't blush) is one of the best ones I've known and his readouts are excellents---even when I get whipped in something I'm trying to do.
The factions are dedicated to various objectives which, as factions, they try to achieve while at the same time contending
against objectives of opposing factions.
Individually you play as you please within the faction objectives, but you also have the possibility of playing as an independent, a pirate or a bandit if you so chose, and, if you find enough like minded players, you can create your own faction(As the Seekers are about to do.
Help is always available for new players both from Stephen, the GM, and the players themselfs. You might be in full warfare against someone but if you have a problem or questions about the rules, the game, just ask-even your worst enemy will
give you honest advice.
Insults are handled with taste and many clans joins in the fun, I do give insult lessons within the game. We can discuss fees when you join.
I play two clans. The one I'm best known for is Rellim, and a more trustworthy, honest, handsome, intelligent, charitable, humble Independent clan you will not meet(sic).
Take a look at us and hopefully you'll feel as our many players do---MIDGARD is the standard...............

If you read below what the said In Character Dexter states, it takes
at least (10) active players, and (30) active clans all declared for
the Seeker faction. Now I have that numbers and more and as he also
stated that currently we have some 70+ active positions(clans) within
the game where 30+ are SEEKERS. So these "roleplaying friends" whom
all play (3) active clans each and number more that 10+ players
account for more than HALF of that 70+ number. Seems like the
Seekers are pretty darn strong! Also let me point out that most of
these players also played in Midgard USA for like 8+ yrs too, and other
PBM/PBEM games. Also they are RPGers, Wargamers, and etc with
loads of experience too, just as good as others. Ok what sets them
different is we all like to roleplay...!

All I can say is Midgard is a awesome game and has always been so.
You get out of it what you put into it, and Think Out Of The Box and
you will and can go far. The Seeker faction is designed by players for
players to have fun in Midgard with the players being the focus. Thus
a faction by the Player, for the Players, and the rest of the game just
has to deal with it. (Said from a Seeker point of view, and said with
the belief that the Seeker faction is the best for whom ever plays in
the faction) Give the game a look, and contact me:

The number of active positions is off the top of my head. I recall Stephen posting about it some time last year.
There is a good chance that there are many more positions now active. I do not know the exact number, only Stephen will have this information at hand if he choses to announce it.

New players are always very welcome, regardless of the faction they decide to join.
Actually Paul,

Stephen stated it was under 100 active turns submitted!

Not sure if different posts in this thread mean different things by a "position", especially as each player in the game can have up to 3 clans.

Second and third clans are referred to as "cousin" clans, but players who have more than one clan may use them in different ways.

You can, for example, have 3 clans that have nothing to do with each other, exploring totally different aspects of the game. Or they could be clans in one or two factions that support a "main" clan (that is, the factions are sympathetic to the faction membership of the player's main clan. Or players might simply put all three clans in the same faction and use them like a sub-factional 3-clan army.

There are many other ways to use second and third clans, like sleeper clans that join a faction just to get access to their information but are otherwise not very active in-game.

So it might be less confusing to refer to the number of players and the number of clans.
